The House Infrastructure Committee (infra comm) is willing to step aside in deference to the Palace-created Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI), which is tasked to probe alleged corruption in government flood mitigation projects.
Led by overall chairman Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon, the infra comm has already conducted two hearings on the corruption scandal, and has been planning a third later this month.
At any rate, it appears ready to hand over the reins to the independent body.
"We are open to suspend proceedings to give way to the ICI," Ridon told House reporters in a Viber message Friday, Sept. 12.
"In the coming weeks, we hope the leadership of both Houses agree to undertake a joint resolution suspending inquiries on anomalous flood control projects to give way to the mandate granted to the ICI," he said.
Over at the other legislative chamber, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee has also carried out a hearing on the controversy, which has implicated names of several congressmen and senators.
