Filipino migrant workers to receive ₱10-billion government budget support in 2026

In a Sept. 12 statement, the DBM said the amount forms part of the social services sector fund, which receives the largest share of next year’s proposed ₱6.793-trillion national budget.
Of this allocation, ₱3.5 billion is earmarked for the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
“We will continue to support the important programs of the DMW to assist and protect the welfare of our fellow Filipinos. This includes funding to ensure the agency can continuously provide assistance, especially to distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families,” DBM Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman said.
As per the DBM, the 2026 National Expenditure Program (NEP) has allocated ₱1.2 billion for the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFW na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) Fund to support OFWs in need.
“This program covers the legal, medical, financial, and other essential support services, such as repatriation, shipment of remains, evacuation, rescue operations, and other similar interventions aimed at safeguarding the rights and welfare of Filipino nationals abroad,” the DBM said.
Meanwhile, ₱1.3 billion has been set aside next year for the Emergency Repatriation Program.
Pangandaman committed to ensuring that government programs “have sufficient funding so the government is always ready to assist and provide help in times of need.”
Additionally, ₱109 million has been allocated for the Workers Auxiliary Support Program and ₱142 million for the Alagang OWWA program.
Meanwhile, ₱497 million has been allocated to the OFW Hospital “to sustain care and support services” for OFWs and their families.
“We affirm our enduring commitment to protect the most vulnerable sectors of our society through the ₱227-billion budget for the social services sector in 2026. Of this amount, ₱223.4 billion will be allocated to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and ₱10.2 billion to the [DMW], among others,” President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said in his budget message last month.
