The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has directed Labor Attaché Macy Monique Maglanque to return to the Philippines and face the Senate’s investigation on flood control anomalies after being named in a Senate privilege speech by Blue Ribbon Committee Chair Senator Panfilo Lacson.
Maglanque, currently assigned in Los Angeles, California, United States, was earlier tagged by Lacson as the president of the MBB Global Properties, a company reportedly linked to controversies in flood control projects.
“Ngayong araw, nag-isyu na tayo ng recall order para kay Labor Attaché Maglanque upang makauwi at personal na harapin ang imbestigasyon. Wala pa pong parusang ipinapataw, ngunit mahalaga na siya mismo ay humarap sa mga katanungan—hindi lamang ng DMW kundi maging ng iba pang imbestigasyong kinakailangan (Today, we have issued a recall order for Labor Attaché Maglanque so she can return home and personally face the investigation. No sanction has been imposed yet, but it is important that she herself respond to the questions—not only from the DMW but also from any other necessary inquiries),” DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said.
“Dahil pinangalanan siya sa privilege speech ng Senate Blue Ribbon Chair, tungkulin natin na sumunod sa proseso at sa atas ng ating Pangulo na papanagutin ang sinumang opisyal kung may alegasyon ng maling gawain o katiwalian (Since she was named in the privilege speech of the Senate Blue Ribbon Chair, it is our duty to follow due process and the directive of our President to hold any official accountable if there are allegations of wrongdoing or corruption),” he added.
Lacson earlier detailed alleged irregularities in government-funded flood control projects, which he claimed were overpriced and tainted by corruption.
He linked such anomalies to certain private companies, including MBB Global Properties, and identified individuals allegedly connected to them, among them Maglanque.
Lacson said that MBB Global Properties listed Maglanque as its president in the company’s 2024 general information sheet. Maglanque is the daughter of Candaba, Pampanga Mayor Rene Maglanque.
Meanwhile, Lacson said the company’s corporate secretary is Sunshine Bernardo, the daughter of Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo; while the company’s treasurer is Fatima Bonoan Dela Cruz, the daughter of resigned DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan.
The senator said MBB is the acronym of the family names Maglanque, Bernardo, and Bonoan.
However, Cacdac clarified that the recall is a procedural step to allow Maglanque to respond to the allegations here in the country.
He stressed that the move is part of the agency’s commitment to due process, integrity, and accountability, stressing that the DMW will fully cooperate with any official inquiry.
“Haharap lamang siya sa imbestigasyon. Ito ay bahagi ng ating paninindigan para sa integridad at pananagutan sa serbisyo publiko (She will only face the investigation. This is part of our commitment to integrity and accountability in public service),” the Migrant Workers chief stressed.
