Mayor Menchie Abalos and Vice Mayor Anthony Suva led the recognition of the 11 barangays on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
The awarded barangays were Addition Hills, Barangka Drive, Barangka Ibaba, Daang Bakal, Hagdan Bato Itaas, Hagdan Bato Libis, Namayan, New Zaniga, Old Zaniga, Plainview, and Wack-Wack Greenhills East.
The local government said that the award affirms the excellent, honest, and accountable governance of the Barangay Captains, council members, and staff, together with the active participation of the residents in their communities.
The DILG earlier launched the first nationwide implementation of the SGLGB in 2023, which is a performance-based assessment and incentive program designed to promote transparency, accountability, and excellence in barangay governance.
However, in June 2025, it said that it had reprogrammed the SGLGB to ensure its alignment with the newly restructured performance framework for local government units (LGUs).
The DILG plans to consolidate the existing core governance areas and essential governance areas of SGLGB into fiscal management, public safety, social services, and innovation for streamlined performance indicators.
The new system will also follow a term-based approach, which means barangays will be given enough time to show real changes before they are assessed, as the DILG wants to make sure the program is fair and realistic and encourages lasting improvements.
