Quezon City 5th district Rep. PM Vargas has produced the documents to disprove Pacifico "Curlee" Discaya ll's claim that he's involved in alleged corruption as far as flood mitigation projects in his area are concerned.
In an interview with House reporters Thursday, Sept. 11, Vargas showed two certifications from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) that supported his earlier claim that he had no projects awarded to the Discaya contractor-couple in his district.
"Noong pinangalanan ako nung Monday, gulat na gulat ako (I was really surprised when my name was mentioned on Monday)," Vargas said, referring to the Sept. 8 Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing when Curlee accused him and several other House members of receiving juicy kickbacks from flood control projects. He instantly denied this.
"Kaya I sought the verification ng agencies ng gobyerno so DPWH, sumulat ako. Tinanong ko, mayroon bang project ang Discaya, kahit anong company nila, sa district ko (That’s why I sought the verification of government agencies, I wrote to the DPWH. I asked if the Discayas had any project in my district, from any of their companies)," Vargas said.
"Ngayon, ang maganda, lumabas na rin, sumulat na sila. Ito, sinasabi talaga dito na walang project ang mga Discaya sa district five, Quezon City at all (Now, the good thing is—they’ve come forward and written. It clearly states here that the Discayas have no projects at all in district five, Quezon City)," he told reporters.
Vargas went the extra mile and sought the status of flood control projects that he requested, just to confirm there aren't any "ghost" endeavors among them
"Sinama ko na rin kasi nga nagkaroon na si Presidente Bongbong Marcos sa website niya, nagpa-check tayo ng mga flood control projects natin. Ang maganda nangyari dito, lahat ng nandun sa website ni Presidente ay completed. Lahat po nung flood control projects na ni-request po natin ay completed din sa district five, Quezon City.
(I included this as well because President Bongbong Marcos had it checked through his website, we had our flood control projects reviewed. What’s great is that everything listed on the President’s website is completed. All the flood control projects we requested in district five, Quezon City are also completed.)
"So cleared siya sa pareho: There are no ghost projects, there are no Discaya projects, and of course, completed yung projects natin sa district five, Quezon City," he said.
(So it’s cleared on both fronts: There are no ghost projects, there are no Discaya projects, and of course, our projects in district five, Quezon City are completed.)
Curlee and his wife, Sarah Discaya have nine construction companies under their names.
Last Monday, Vargas said he would "file a case" against the couple.
"Right now we are finalizing with our lawyers," he said Thursday regarding the legal action.
