LPA dissipates; easterlies to bring hot, humid weather and thunderstorms — PAGASA
The low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) dissipated over the eastern section of Luzon early Thursday, Sept. 11, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said the prevailing weather system currently affecting the country is the easterlies, or warm and humid winds from the Pacific Ocean.
This weather system is responsible for the hot and muggy weather, especially during the morning and afternoon, she added.
The easterlies are also expected to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening over Bicol region, Aurora, Quezon, and Marinduque.
Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may be experienced over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and the Visayas.
Similar weather conditions are expected in Mindanao due to localized thunderstorms.
Dominguez said PAGASA is also monitoring a cloud cluster east of Mindanao, which may develop into a new low-pressure area in the coming days.
The weather bureau urged the public to stay alert for possible flash floods and landslides, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall or severe thunderstorms.
These thunderstorms typically last up to three hours and may bring intense rain, strong winds, lightning, and sometimes hail.
