GMA Network earns four shortlisted entries at 2025 AIBs
Media giant GMA Network raises the Philippine flag anew on the global stage as it secures four nominations at the 2025 Association for International Broadcast Awards (AIBs).
GMA Integrated News' (GMAIN) flagship newscast 24 Oras is shortlisted for its "Mole People" report under the Continuing News category. The special report featured the homeless individuals discovered living in underground drainage tunnels in Makati. The report sparked discussions on poverty, homelessness, and the scarcity of affordable housing in urban areas. The report is competing against the works from Al Jazeera, CNA, Antena 3 CNN, Bloomberg, and Phoenix Satellite Television. 24 Oras is anchored by award-winning broadcast journalists Mel Tiangco, Vicky Morales, and Emil Sumangil.
Meanwhile, Vicky Morales is once again nominated as Presenter of the Year award for 24 Oras. The GMA Integrated News pillar, who was also shortlisted in 2023, is joining Anoushka Mutanda-Dougherty and Divya Gopalan as this year’s finalists.
GMA Public Affair’s top-rating and multi-awarded program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) is shortlisted under the Investigative category for its “Kidneys for Sale” story. The episode exposed the rampant and more organized online trade of kidneys in the country. Hosted by the country’s most awarded and most trusted broadcast journalist Jessica Soho, KMJS is nominated alongside other investigative reports from the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, Qatar, Ukraine, and Singapore.
Rounding off the Philippines’ finalist entries this year is "The Atom Araullo Specials: Pogoland." The special report is competing under the Domestic Affairs Documentary category. It investigated the complex world of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) and how these have become vehicles for human trafficking. The multi-awarded documentary program is hosted by Atom Araullo.
Established in 2004, the AIBs recognizes the highest standards in journalism and factual productions across video, audio, and digital platforms.
The winners of this year’s selection will be announced on Nov. 14 in London, United Kingdom. (Robert R. Requintina)
