Nueva Ecija Vice Governor Gil Raymond Umali took over the leadership of the province in what the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) described as smooth and proper observance of succession rules.
In a statement, the DILG said the assumption of Umali as governor of Nueva Ecija is to ensure uninterrupted delivery of public service in the province following the suspension of his older brother, Aurelio “Oyie” Umali.
The Office of the Ombudsman suspended Umali for one year over a case leveled against him for allegedly issuing over 200 quarry permits without clearance from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
The DILG said it also facilitated the transition of power to Board Member Eduardo Jose B. Joson VII as acting vice governor, being the first-ranked Sangguniang Panlalawigan member.
“The DILG emphasized that its role is to uphold accountability while ensuring continuity of governance. The people’s welfare remains paramount, and services and programs in Nueva Ecija must remain on track despite political transitions,” the DILG statement read.
“The law must be respected, and the people must always be served. This is the assurance of the DILG: that accountability will be upheld while ensuring that no Filipino is left behind in the delivery of essential services,” it added.
The DILG said its Central Luzon regional office was directed to validate the fact of implementation and their report confirmed that the suspension had been duly served.
