ONCADA
DAVAO CITY – Davao content creator Crist Briand Oncada, popularly known as Crist Briand and Brader, publicly apologized to the Muslim community on Wednesday, Sept. 10, following an offensive online post.
“I sincerely apologize for the post I made, which offended Muslim community members,” Oncada said in a video-recorded statement, accompanied by members of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.
Oncada emphasized that he understood that his words and actions were inappropriate and caused pain to others, and would take full responsibility for them.
As part of an amicable settlement facilitated by the NCMF-Davao region and the city government of Davao, Oncada committed to several conditions.
He cited refraining from creating or posting content for one month, attend psychiatric consultations with his mother, and participate in community activities such as feeding programs and community assistance projects organized by the Muslim community.
“In the future, I will be responsible for what I say and how I behave, think wisely before speaking, and practice Dabawenyo discipline,” the content creator said.
“As a true Davaoeño, I shall conduct myself in a manner that befits a true Davaoeño by exercising respect and accountability and cultural sensitivity in my words and actions online and offline,” Oncada added.
The NCMF welcomed Oncada’s apology and highlighted that the settlement underscores the importance of accountability, dialogue, and reconciliation.
“This incident serves as a reminder that Islam is a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness. Respecting Halal principles and cultural sensitivities is not just about rules—it is about peace of mind, mutual respect, and harmony in a diverse society,” the commission said.
NCMF stressed that resolving the issue involves addressing an offense and building bridges of respect and understanding within the community.
The city government of Davao expressed support, underscoring that the incident reminds all social media users to use online platforms responsibly and with respect for cultural and religious sensitivities.
The NCMF and the city government of Davao vowed to continue working together to monitor compliance with the settlement and advance programs that promote peace, respect, and harmony in the community.
