6 Pinoy student aces shine in International Science Olympiad
Six Filipino students achieved perfect scores in the recently concluded 2025 International Science Olympiad (ISO), which drew thousands of young science prodigies from across the globe.
The delegates' mentors, Mathematics Trainers' Guild Phils. (MTG), headed by Dr. Simon Chua, said seven other students also qualified for the competition's Global Round.
Chua said the team hauled a total of 120 medals from the contest, consisting of 17 golds, 46 silvers, and 57 bronzes.
He named the six perfect scorers as David Jose Briones (Bacolod Trinity Christian School); Liam Li (Philippine Cultural College Caloocan); Emmanuel Shawn Mariano (Colegio San Agustin Binan) and Maizie Brienne Bendicion, Yini Lu and Yaohui Lu (Grace Christian College).
The seven other ISO Global Round qualifiers are Kristan Brussett and Sry Aubree Teo (Zamboanga Chong Hua High School); Maryam Sojuaco (Frames of Mind School); Leidle Mine Barrameda (Tabaco Northwest Central School); Clairean Nichole Nee (Ateneo de Zamboanga University Grade School); CJ Daniel Canaba (Tabaco National High School) and Charls Freinster Basubas (Cauayan City Sr. High Schooll.
The ISO National Round was held on May 25, followed by the Global Round on July 26.
"The contest aims to inspire young minds for scientific knowledge, critical thinking and global competency," Chua said, adding that the ISO serves as a platform for students to compete with their peers from various countries promoting a global community.
