QCPD probes alleged harassment by cop at Batasan protest
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has started an investigation on the alleged harassment incident involving a police officer in civilian clothing during a protest rally at the House of Representatives on Sept. 5.
In a statement on Wednesday, Sept. 9, the QCPD confirmed that a complaint had been filed against a policeman reportedly linked to the incident.
“If confirmed that the person involved is indeed a member of the QCPD, appropriate action will immediately be taken in accordance with the law and our disciplinary mechanisms,” the QCPD said, stressing thatit does not tolerate violence, abuse, or harassment.
“The QCPD does not and will not tolerate any act of violence, abuse, or harassment, as we remain firm in upholding and respecting human rights,” it said.
The police also underscored that the right to peaceful assembly is recognized under the law, provided it is exercised within the bounds of Batas Pambansa Blg. 880 and other applicable regulations.
The QCPD stressed that maximum tolerance is observed during public gatherings, with personnel instructed to carry out their duties with professionalism and adherence to the rule of law.
“Rest assured that the QCPD is fully committed to protecting the rights of every citizen while maintaining peace and order in Quezon City,” the statement read.
