A carnapper was nabbed at a checkpoint in Barangay Balong Bato, San Juan City, on Sept. 8, the Eastern Police District (EPD) reported Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Based on the police report, officers of the San Juan City Police manning an Oplan Sita checkpoint in the barangay spotted a motorcycle with a broken headlight, prompting them to flag its rider who was also wearing slippers.
As part of its standard operating procedure, the police asked the rider to show his driver's license and ownership documents of his motorcycle. However, he failed to produce his license nor any of the documents.
After being informed that he will be issued a citation ticket and his vehicle will be impounded, the rider suddenly escaped on foot but he was immediately cornered.
As the suspect was undergoing inquest proceedings at the police station, a man reported that his motorcycle had been stolen earlier that day.
He and the police later found out that the suspect had been riding his stolen motorcycle.
The suspect was detained at the San Juan City Police custodial facility and is facing carnapping charges.
