The DFA cited report from the Philippine Embassy in Doha.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs’ latest report from our Embassy in Doha is that no Filipino has been directly affected by the strike,” a statement on Wednesday, Sept. 10, said.
“The Embassy continues to check on our kababayans,” it added.
According to the DFA, there are around 220,000 Filipinos in Qatar.
In a separate advisory, the Embassy urged all Filipinos in Qatar “to remain calm, monitor news from credible sources, and heed the advice of local authorities.”
They were also advised to “stay indoors and avoid public spaces unless absolutely necessary.”
“Filipinos are advised to follow the Embassy’s website and official social media for updates,” it added.
On Tuesday, Sept. 9, Israel carried out an attack targeting Hamas leadership in Qatar, an unprecedented strike on a key mediator in Israel’s conflict with Gaza.
This came after two Palestinian gunmen killed six Israelis and injured eight others when they opened fire at a bus station in Jerusalem. But while no armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack, Hamas praised the attack.
Hamas said the Israeli strike on Doha killed five members but failed to assassinate the negotiating delegation, while Qatar’s top officials condemned the attack and called it an “irresponsible” behavior from Israel that will not be tolerated.
