President Marcos has ordered the Social Security System (SSS) and Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) to guard funds with integrity and invest wisely.
In his speech at the ceremonial launching of the SSS Pension Reform Program on Wednesday, Sept. 10, Marcos reminded both institutions to ensure that in the time of need, they are ready to assist the members.
"And that is why I direct the leadership of these two institutions to guard this trust with the highest integrity and vigilance," Marcos said.
"So, invest wisely," he ordered them.
The President also directed them to modernize their systems and make processes efficient and ensure that services are easier to reach, be it through digital platforms or help desks and kiosks, even in the most remote areas.
"Make sure your services are available whenever the need arises, wherever the need arises," he said.
"Let us protect the lifetime of work that our pensioners have built for themselves and for our country," he added.
Marcos also encouraged pensioners to plan their future carefully, and coordinate with the SSS and GSIS so they can properly prepare their pension and the benefits for their loved ones.
The Chief Executive led the ceremonial launching of the SSS Pension Reform Program, a multi-year pension increase that provides annual adjustments for all pensioners every September from 2025 to 2027.
Under the program, retirement and disability pensioners will receive a 10-percent annual pension increase while death/survivor pensioners will also receive a 5-percent annual increase.
As a result, after three years, pensions will have increased by 33 percent for retirement/disability pensioners and 16 percent for death/survivor pensioners.
According to SSS, the pension reform program "will not necessitate any contribution increase."
As of Sept. 5, over 3.8 million SSS pensioners have benefitted from this year's pension increase.
