CEBU CITY – The province of Bohol cemented its status as one of the country’s top destinations when it won the Philippine Tourism Excellence Award for Tourism Destination Province for 2025-2027 at the inaugural Philippine Tourism Awards (PTA) on Monday, Sept. 8, at the Okada Manila, Parañaque City.
On behalf of Gov. Aris Aumentado, chairman of the Provincial Tourism Council (PTC), lawyer Lucas Nunag, council co-chairman, received the award that underscores Bohol’s enduring legacy as a pioneering and resilient tourism destination since the 1970s.
Bohol was also named a finalist for the Eco-Tourism Destination award.
Two towns from Bohol were also named finalists in other categories. Loboc was a finalist for Best Tourism Destination (Municipality) and Panglao was a finalist for Best Dive Destination.
Lourdes Sultan, president of the Bohol Alliance of Travel and Tour Operators (BATTO), was honored as a Tourism Pillar Awardee for 2025.
“It is a big honor for our province to receive the Philippine Tourism Excellence Awards for Tourism Destination Province. It inspires us to strengthen our programs and projects that offer quality service to local and foreign tourists,” Aumentado said.
The governor said that Bohol’s culture, history, and natural environment remain the strong anchors of its legacy, helping establish a tourism industry ready to embrace innovations for collective progress.
Bohol’s win highlights its timeless attractions, from the iconic Chocolate Hills and centuries-old churches to pristine beaches and vibrant cultural heritage that continue to captivate visitors from all over the world.
Led by the Department of Tourism, the PTA is envisioned as a periodic national recognition program to honor excellence across the tourism value chain.
The inaugural awards recognized both private and public sector players in tourism, with winners chosen from 102 finalists narrowed down from 353 applicants.
Categories included hotels, resorts, tourist transport operators, tour operators, MICE venues, community tour guides, and tourism journalists.
It also celebrated 17 pioneering enterprises and 30 individual awardees, including three posthumous recognitions.
“On behalf of the DOT, I also extend my heartfelt thanks to our partner government agencies, and to the distinguished panel of judges from both the public and private sector, for lending your time, wisdom, and integrity to this undertaking. Your dedication has ensured that these awards stand as a credible and prestigious recognition of excellence in our industry,” Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said.
