BACOLOD CITY – Police Col. Dennis Wenceslao was formally installed as the new Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office chief on Tuesday, Sept.9, at the provincial police headquarters in Barangay Estefania here.
Police Col. Dennis Esguerra, deputy regional director for administration of Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), presided the turnover, on behalf of Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, in the presence of Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson.
Wenceslao said that he will be guided by the seven-point focus agenda of acting PNP chief Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., and tailored fit to Nocppo’s implementation plan.
The agenda focuses on enhancing the management of police operations, strengthening campaigns against illegal drugs, loose firearms, and terrorism, implementing risk management strategies, securing vital installations, improving event management, promoting personnel welfare, and ensuring effective resource management.
“I recognize that this new role is not just about leadership, but about building stronger bridges of cooperation,” Wenceslao said.
He expressed confidence that he will achieve greater milestones for the safety and progress of the province through their partnership with the government, private institutions, and the community.
He acknowledged the challenges along the way, but he is confident that with absolute faith, unity, discipline, and unwavering dedication, they will overcome anything.
“I am here to listen, lead and fight alongside you. Let’s achieve great things together,” Wenceslao said.
“To the people of Negros Occidental, I give you my personal assurance: Your police force is here for you. We are ready to listen, ready to act, and ready to serve with the utmost honor and integrity,” he added.
He thanked Gov. Lacson for choosing him. “I am honored for the trust given to me. I did not expect this,” he said.
Wenceslao thanked outgoing Nocppo head Police Col. Rainerio de Chavez for his dedication and best practices that have built a strong foundation of success and stability for Nocppo.
De Chavez was reassigned to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) after serving in Nocppo for one year-and-a-half. Wenceslao was the head of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division before his reassignment.
Lacson said that he trusts Wenceslao’s leadership to build upon the foundations laid by his predecessors, and to bring fresh energy, vision, and resolve in the continuing fight against criminality, illegal drugs, and threats to public safety.
“I understand that the work of maintaining peace and order is never easy. But with the Philippine National Police and the provincial government working hand in hand, I am confident that we will be able to achieve more for the safety and well-being of every Negrense,” the governor said.
He thanked De Chavez’s leadership that helped strengthen peace and order in the province, guided his officers with discipline and professionalism, and fostered strong collaboration with local government units and stakeholders. “We salute you for your service and the legacy you leave behind,” he said.
