A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted from June 25 to 29 revealed that Filipinos continue to give “very high” trust in the United States (US), while trust in Palestine, China, and Iran remains “poor.”
The survey results released on Tuesday, Sept. 9 showed that 72 percent of respondents had “much trust” in the US, while only 9 percent expressed “little trust.”
This translates to a net trust rating of +63 (percentage much trust minus percentage little trust), up from +58 in April (69 percent much trust, 11 percent little trust).
The survey found that Japan and Australia also received positive ratings, both earning “good” net trust scores.
Japan’s net trust rose from +36 in April (55 percent much trust, 19 percent little trust) to +43 in June (58 percent much trust, 15 percent little trust).
Australia’s rating improved more significantly, climbing from +23 in April (44 percent much trust, 22 percent little trust) to +37 in June (53 percent much trust, 16 percent little trust).
Meanwhile, SWS said Taiwan and Mexico were rated “moderate” in net trust.
Taiwan’s score reached a record-high +18 in June (42 percent much trust, 24 percent little trust), up from +13 in April (40 percent much trust, 27 percent little trust).
Mexico’s rating remained steady but slightly declined to +11 in June (34 percent much trust, 24 percent little trust) from +13 in April (37 percent much trust, 24 percent little trust).
Countries rated “neutral” in the SWS survey include Israel, Russia, and Ukraine.
Israel’s net trust increased from zero in April (33 percent much trust, 33 percent little trust) to +7 in June (36 percent much trust, 28 percent little trust).
Russia’s rating improved from -12 in April (25 percent much trust, 37 percent little trust) to -2 in June (30 percent much trust, 32 percent little trust).
Ukraine remained negative but improved slightly from -9 in April (25 percent much trust, 34 percent little trust) to -4 in June (26 percent much trust, 30 percent little trust).
Meanwhile, SWS said Palestine, China, and Iran received “poor” net trust ratings.
Palestine’s score remained steady at -13 in June (20 percent much trust, 33 percent little trust), consistent with April’s rating (-13).
China’s rating improved from -30 in April (20 percent much trust, 50 percent little trust) to -20 in June (24 percent much trust, 44 percent little trust), marking its least negative score since December 2020.
Iran’s net trust rose from -31 in March 2012 (17 percent much trust, 48 percent little trust) to -23 in June (19 percent much trust, 42 percent little trust).
The SWS survey was conducted nationwide through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults aged 18 and above, with a margin of error of ±3 percent at the national level.
