Philippines may remain cyclone-free until weekend; afternoon, evening thunderstorms still likely — PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, Sept. 9 said the country is expected to remain free of tropical cyclones until the weekend, but localized thunderstorms may still affect parts of the country.
PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said there is currently no low-pressure area (LPA) being monitored as of Tuesday.
“Posible po hanggang sa weekend medyo maliit na ‘yung tyansang magkaroon tayo ng bagyo sa loob ng Philippine Area of Responsibility base sa pinakahuling datos natin ngayon (It’s possible that until the weekend, the chance of a tropical cyclone forming within the Philippine Area of Responsibility will remain low based on our latest data),” he added.
On Wednesday, Sept. 10, warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as easterlies, may continue to bring scattered rains over Bicol region.
The rest of the country may experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the late afternoon and evening.
From Thursday to Saturday, Sept. 11 to 13, generally fair weather is expected throughout the country.
However, localized thunderstorms may still occur in the afternoon or evening.
PAGASA advised the public to remain vigilant against possible flash floods and landslides, especially during moderate to heavy rainfall or severe thunderstorms.
These weather systems typically last up to three hours and may bring intense rain, lightning, strong winds, and occasionally hail.
