Philippine energy leaders convene to discuss power sector challenges
Representatives from the Philippine government’s top energy regulatory agencies and key private sector players are set to discuss the challenges facing the country’s power sector at the second energy forum of the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines (EJAP) on Sept. 11.
The EJAP forum, with the theme “State of Philippine Energy: Balancing the Energy Trilemma,” will take place at the SEC Headquarters in Makati City. It aims to address the intersecting challenges of energy security, affordability, and environmental sustainability.
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Francis Lim noted that his office]s participation is part of its efforts to help boost investments in the energy sector.
Department of Energy (DOE) Undersecretary Mylene Capongcol is slated to discuss the agency’s strategic programs and policies.
She said these are designed to attract investments while committing to a just energy transition and the development of new infrastructure to support the country's rising power needs.
Capongcol also noted that more than 100 journalists, private sector representatives, and government officials are expected to attend the event.
Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Chair and Chief Executive Officer Francis Saturnino C. Juan will also speak at the forum.
He added that the ERC’s role is to ensure consumer protection while promoting a competitive and sustainable energy market.
Joining them in a panel discussion are representatives from private sector players First Gen Corp., Aboitiz Power Corp., and San Miguel Corp.
