More House of Representatives members implicated by contractor Pacifico "Curlee" Discaya ll and his wife, Sarah Discaya in the flood control projects controversy have come up with their respective denials, especially on the allegation of receiving commissions.
"I strongly and categorically deny the baseless accusations lnking me to alleged corrupt practices and illegal acts. The ongoing flood-control nvestigation is a serious matter. am totally surprised that my name has been mentioned," USWAG ILONGGO Party-list Rep. James "Jojo" Ang Jr. said in a statement, referring to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing Monday, Sept, 8 where the solons' names were dropped.
"It is unfortunate that some interested parties have chosen to resort to name-dragging for their personal agenda. It is a convenient distraction from the real issues. I urge the public to be circumspect and to remain focused on the facts," And added.
Ang further said he was "one with the people in exacting accountability from those responsible for robbing our people of their hard-earned taxes and eroding the integrity of our institutions".
"I denounce all types of corruption that prejudices not just the government but undermines the' trust reposed to us by the Filipino people," he said.
Caloocan City 3rd district Rep. Dean Asistio said in a separate statement: "Mariin nating itinatanggi ang alegasyon na tayo po ay tumanggap ng anumang halaga ng pera mula sa mag-asawang Discaya. Walang ghost projects sa distritong aking nasasakupan."
(We strongly deny the allegation that we received any amount of money from the Discaya couple. There are no ghost projects in the district I represent.)
"Ayon sa datos ng DPWH, nagkaroon ng proyekto ang mga Discaya na siyang makikita sa distritong aking pinaglilingkuran. Sa execution ng mga proyekto, bukod tanging DPWH lamang ang nangangasiwa pagdating sa assessment at awarding ng proyekto sa mga kontratista na naaayon sa public bidding process," Asistio explained.
(According to DPWH data, the Discayas had projects located in the district I serve. In the execution of these projects, only the DPWH oversees the assessment and awarding to contractors, in accordance with the public bidding process.)
The Calocoan solon says he will not be taking the allegations sitting down.
"Sinisigurado ko na pananagutin ko ang mag-asawang Discaya sa kanilang mapanira at malisyosong mga paratang. Mr. at Mrs. Discaya, magkikita tayo sa Korte (I assure you that I will hold the Discaya couple accountable for their defamatory and malicious accusations. Mr. and Mrs. Discaya, we will see each other in court)," he said.
In his own statement, Laguna 4th district Rep. Benjamin Agarao Jr. gave a categorical denial of the Discayas' allegations.
"I categorically deny the allegations of The Spouses Discaya that I asked money from them in exchange for projects in my district in Laguna. HINDI PO YAN TOTOO. WALA PO SILANG PROYEKTO SA AKING DISTRITO (That is not true, they don't have a project in my district)," he said.
"I am consulting my lawyers. I will sue them for libel and perjury. Hindi ko hahayaan na sirain nila ng ganun lang ang pangalan reputasyon ko na iningatan ko ng mahabang panahon (I will not allow them to simply ruin the name and reputation that I've protected for so long)," Agarao said.
