DMW starts work for establishment of migrant workers office in Cambodia
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has started coordinating with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) for the establishment of a Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Cambodia.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the establishment of an MWO in Cambodia is timely amid rising concerns over scam hubs victimizing Filipino workers.
“This will complement the Philippine Embassy in addressing the concerns of overseas Filipinos,” said Cacdac.
President Marcos earlier committed to create an MWO in Cambodia during a meeting with hundreds of Filipinos in Phnom Penh.
Cacdac explained that the MWO will directly serve the estimated 10,000 Filipinos living and working in Cambodia by providing legal aid, welfare assistance, reintegration programs, and skills training opportunities.
He said the DMW will comply with Marcos order in the soonest possible time.
Currently, the DMW has 42 Migrant Workers Offices worldwide and is working to establish more in countries with significant Filipino migrant populations.
