Special police force deployed to quell crimes in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY – A special police force has been deployed to quell crimes in this city.

Police Regional Office-6 chief Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan sent the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-6 to portions of Mandurriao District where many publicized incidents over a period of almost a month had been reported.
On Sept. 3, the 61-year-old wife of retired Police Col. Cornelio Salinas Jr., a former police chief of Iloilo province, was robbed at the parking lot of a popular mall.
On Sept. 6, a group of men were involved in a brawl in another part of the mall complex.
In August, warring groups were recorded fighting in another popular mall complex. Videos of the incident have gone viral.
The RMFB is a police unit usually found in the hinterlands for counterterrorism operations and not necessarily deployed to highly urbanized areas such as Iloilo City. The RMFB is also deployed for civil disturbances or disaster response.
Thirty policemen under RMFB-6 are augmenting Police Station 10 of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
