The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) announced on Monday, September 8, that it has fulfilled its promise of faster claims processing under its newly launched Guaranteed Access to Medicines and Outpatient Treatment (GAMOT) program, releasing its first payment ahead of the 15-day commitment period.
In a statement, PhilHealth said it turned over the initial payment to CGD Medical Depot Inc., an accredited GAMOT retail pharmacy located at Ayala Malls–Vertis North, Quezon City.
GAMOT, an enhancement to PhilHealth’s “Your Konsulta and Access to Primary Care” (YAKAP) package, expands access to medicines for Filipinos by covering 75 essential drugs—up from the previous 21.
The expanded drug list includes treatments for both common and chronic conditions such as infections, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, high cholesterol, and nervous system disorders.
PhilHealth said the initiative supports President Marcos’ directive in his recent State of the Nation Address (SONA) to make medicines more affordable and accessible nationwide.
“Hindi lang ito basta bayad sa serbisyong ipinagkaloob ng ating partner pharmacy (This is not merely payment for the services provided by our partner pharmacy),” said PhilHealth Acting President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Edwin M. Mercado during the simple turnover rites held in Makati City.
“Ito ay pagtupad sa pangako na gawing abot-kamay ang gamot sa nangangailangan nito (It is the fulfillment of a promise to make medicines within reach for those who need them),” he added.

Through partnerships with FDA-licensed retail pharmacies nationwide, PhilHealth members can conveniently claim their prescribed medications at accredited GAMOT facilities.
To access the benefit, members must register via the eGovPH mobile app, select a YAKAP clinic and Primary Care Provider (PCP), and schedule their First Patient Encounter (FPE).
As of September 3, PhilHealth said there are 41 GAMOT-accredited pharmacies already operating in Metro Manila, with more facilities expected to join the program in the coming months.
The complete and updated list of PhilHealth GAMOT-accredited facilities is available on the official PhilHealth website.
