PH to open migrant workers office in Phnom Penh

President Marcos bared that the Philippines will establish a Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Marcos made the announcement before the Filipino community in Cambodia on Monday night, Sept. 7 during a meeting with them.
"[A]ng gobyerno ay patuloy na maglilingkod upang masuklian ang inyong mga tulong at sakripisyo (The government will continue to serve you to in order to repay your help and sacrifices)," Marcos said in his speech.
"Kung kaya’t naatasan ko si (Department of Migrant Workers) Secretary Cacdac na magbukas ng Migrant Workers Office dito ngayon sa Phnom Penh (That is why I have tasked Secretary Cacdac to open a Migrant Workers Office here in Phnom Penh today," he announced.
The President said it will be done as soon as possible to work alongside the Philippine Embassy in promoting overseas Filipinos' welfare and rights.
World-class Filipino brand of heroism
Marcos praised Filipino migrant workers in Cambodia for their heroism, recognizing their sacrifices for their families and their valuable contributions to both the Philippines and Cambodia.
"You represent so powerfully a premium, world-class Filipino brand that embodies heroism," he said.
"Hindi lamang kayo bayani ng inyong mga pamilya. Kayo rin ay bayani ng kapos-palad dito sa Cambodia na binabahagian ninyo ng mga bunga ng sarili ninyong paghihirap (You are not just the heroes of your family. You are also heroes to the less fortunate here in Cambodia, whom you share with the fruits of your own hard work)," he added.
The President stressed that Filipinos are at the core of the robust bilateral relations between the two countries.
"Sa kaibuturan ng magandang samahang ito ay ang mga Pilipinong tulad ninyo na patuloy na pinapasigla ang ating pagkakaibigan (At the heart of this wonderful relationship are Filipinos like you who continue to nurture our friendship)," Marcos told OFWs.
This is Marcos' second time to meet with the Filipino community in Phnom Penh. The first was during his participation in the ASEAN Summit in 2022.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), there are around 7,500 Filipinos in Cambodia, mostly professionals working in the education and service sectors.
