Easterlies to bring rain showers, thunderstorms over parts of the Philippines
Warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as easterlies, are expected to bring clouds and rain over parts of the country until the weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Sept. 8.
PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said Eastern Visayas and Caraga may experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours.
The easterlies may also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, the rest of Visayas, and the rest of Mindanao.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
From Tuesday to Friday, Sept. 9 to 12, generally fair weather is expected nationwide.
However, brief afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms may still occur, especially in the eastern sections of the country.
Villamil also noted that severe tropical storm “Tapah,” formerly known as “Lannie,” is now far from the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
As of Monday morning, it was located 910 kilometers west of extreme Northern Luzon, moving north-northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour.
Villamil added that the severe tropical storm has no direct effect on any part of the country.
