Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon says the House of Representatives can guarantee the safety of the controversial Discaya couple--Curlee and Sarah--in its ongoing investigation on anomalous and "ghost" flood control projects.
This, as Ridon, overall chairman of the House Infrastructure Committee (infra comm), confirmed that the invitation to the Discayas to attend the continuation of the probe Tuesday, Sept. 9 remains active.
"[The] invitation to the Discayas stands...House will assure their security," Ridon said.
The House inquiry will resume a day after Curlee Discayas implicated several past and present congressmen in the flood control projects controversy during a Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing.
He said these solons received huge commissions--essentially kickbacks--from such projects that their construction company cornered as winning contractor.
Curlee linked no less than House Speaker Martin Romualdez to this controversy, something that the latter vehemently denied Monday afternoon, Sept. 8.
For Ridon, Curlee's revelations give all the more reason for him and his wife to attend the infra comm probe.
"They should be able to confront the persons they accused for their affidavits and testimonies to have credibility," said the party-list lawmaker.
After they name-dropped the congressmen in the Senate hearing, Senator Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa advised the Discaya couple to do everything in their power to ensure their safety, including using bullet-proof vehicles.
The former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief said lawless elements like the New People's Army (NPA) could easily take advantage of the situation and go after them, and then make it appear that it was the House members who attack them, just so they could sow confusion in the country.
