'Aimed at misleading us': Mayor Vico points out inconsistencies in Discaya couple's statements during Senate hearing
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto called on the public on Monday, Sept. 8, to remain vigilant and discerning amid the ongoing investigation on the anomalous flood control projects in the country.
Sotto made the statement after several individuals, including spouses Curlee and Sarah Discaya, were being investigated by the Senate for their alleged involvement in the issue.
According to him, the Discayas are clearly aiming to become state witnesses on the issue, preventing them to be jailed by the authorities.
"Obviously there are congressmen, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials, and contractors who are guilty. But the spouses Discaya are clearly angling to become state witnesses para di sila makulong (so they will not jailed). We know they are capable of lying, just go back to their campaign period videos and posts," Sotto said.
"Today in the Senate hearing, I noticed many inconsistencies in their statement. Yung pinaka obvious na lang munang halimbawa ng kasinungalingan: Sabi ni 'Mistermind Curlee,' 2-3 percent lang ng contract cost ang kita nila kada project. 'Swerte na' daw kung 5 percent. Sa ibang project lugi pa daw sila (Today in the Senate hearing, I noticed many inconsistencies in their statement. Let's talk about the most obvious of their lies: 'Mistermind Curlee' said they only make 2-3 percent of the contract cost on each project. They say they are 'lucky' if it's 5 percent. They say they are still losing money on other projects)," he added, saying that this is contrary to what they said in a previous interview wherein they said that they are billionaires earning "11 digits" or at least P10 billion.
"Paano ka magiging bilyonaryo sa 2-3 percent profit? Presidente na mismo ang nakakita sa ghost project nila. Sinong gagawa ng ganun kalaking krimen para sa 2-3 percent na kita? Wag tayong magpauto sa mga paawa effect nila na wala daw silang magawa (How can you become a billionaire with 2-3 percent profit? The President himself saw their ghost project. Who would commit such a big crime for 2-3 percent profit? Let's not be fooled by their pity effect that they say they can't do anything)."
The mayor noted that the challenge now is how to sift through the "half-truths and attempts to mislead us, not only of the spouses Discaya, but of everyone involved."
