Corruption can't be exclusive to just one sector.
Tingog Party-list Rep. Jude Acidre had this to say following Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin's scathing statement against the House of Representatives on the issue of the P6.793-trillion National Expenditure Program (NEP) for 2026 over the weekend.
"Hindi naman pwedeng ang corruption ay nasa isang sector lang, o ang corruption ay nasa isang sitwasyon lang. Ito po ay continuing proseso ng accountability (Corruption can't be exclusive to only sector or situation. This is a continuing process of accountability)," Acodre said in a radio interview on Sunday, Sept. 7.
In a statement Saturday, Bersamin assailed some House members for supposedly attempting to shift the blame "for their own corruption and failures" to Cabinet officials or the executive branch.
The Palace official reckoned in dramatic fashion that the lower chamber should "clean their House first".
"Hindi ko mapuntirya talaga kung ano ang specific na pinanggagalingan ng ating executive secretary (I really can't pinpoint where the executive secretary is coming from)," Acidre said.
"Lahat tayo galit sa mga corrupt. Yun po yung una nating premise (We are all angry at the corrupt. That's our first premise). I think both ES Bersamin at mga congressmen will all agree on that," stressed the Tacloban City-based solon.
"Second is, I think it's time we hold everybody accountable. Kahit sino naman siguro na may hawak ng pera ng bayan eh dapat may pananagutan kung paano ito ginagamit, paano ito ginasta (Anyone who holds the people's money should be accountable for how it's used, how it's spent). I think that should not excuse anyone," Acdire said.
He also frowned at the finger-pointing on the issue of corruption in government, as he said that accountability should be shared by everyone.
"Ako (Me), I welcome the challenge of ES Bersamin. Sige, linisin natin ang Kamara de Representantes pero (OK, let's clean the House of Representatives but) we also exact the same amount. And I think that's where the party leaders are coming from. We also exact the same level of accountability from everyone else," Acidre further said.
