The Philippine motorcycle market continued its steady expansion in the second quarter of 2025, with sales reaching 910,923 units. This represents a 4.8 percent increase compared to the 876,074 units sold during the same period last year.
According to the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA), motorcycles remain a preferred choice for Filipino commuters because of their affordability, fuel efficiency, and practicality in navigating heavy traffic. “Filipinos continue to see two-wheeled vehicles as a practical solution to daily commuting challenges, as their affordability, fuel efficiency, and ability to weave through heavy traffic, among other advantages, make them an essential choice for urban mobility,” said Alex Cumpas, MDPPA President.
The data from Q2 2025 highlights sustained demand across multiple categories, including automatic scooters, mopeds, street bikes, business motorcycles, and big bikes. Automatic and scooter models continued to dominate the market. Analysts point to several factors driving the growth, including the strong need for personal mobility, the ongoing economic recovery, and easier access to financing options.
Industry stakeholders expect this upward trajectory to continue. The MDPPA projects an overall growth of around 5 percent for the year, buoyed by the rising use of motorcycles in delivery services and as an economical form of transport in both cities and rural areas. “We remain optimistic about the continued growth of motorcycle sales in the Philippines for this year, driven by strong consumer demand, expanding delivery and mobility services, and the consistently growing appeal of motorcycles as a cost-effective personal transport option across both urban and rural areas,” said Toni Boi Acuesta, MDPPA Marketing Committee Chairperson.
The MDPPA represents leading motorcycle manufacturers Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, and TVS. Beyond monitoring industry trends, the group also promotes rider safety and sustainable practices. Among its recent programs is Tropang MAALAM, short for Tropang Modelo, Alerto, Aktibo, Ligtas, Aalalay, at Matalino, which focuses on rider education, awareness, and training.
With the demand for motorcycles showing no signs of slowing down, industry leaders are positioning the sector as an important part of the Philippines’ mobility landscape, addressing both urban congestion and transportation affordability.
