'Pinoys can conquer the world': Solons greet Alex Eala for winning 1st WTA title

Members of the House of Representatives hailed tennis phenom Alex Eala on Sunday, Sept. 7 for becoming the first Filipino in history to win a Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles title.
House Speaker Martin Romualdez, in a statement, said that Eala "brought honor to our nation" with this distinction.
"Congratulations, Alex Eala! Your first WTA Singles Title at the 2025 Guadalajara Open is a proud moment for the Philippines. You have brought honor to our nation and inspired countless young Filipinos to dream big," said the Leyte 1st district congressman.
The Revillas of Cavite expressed similar felicitations to the 20-year-old Eala.
“Congratulations, Alex Eala! Your hard work and discipline on and off the court continue to inspire the youth. You’ve shown that with passion and perseverance, Filipinos can conquer the world stage," Cavite 1st district Rep. Jolo Revilla said in a separate statement.
Rep. Revilla's mother, Cavite 2nd district Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla, added: “Congratulations, Alex! Your success is a reminder to every Filipino—especially to young girls—that dreams do come true with dedication and courage. We are proud of you!”
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental 3rd district Rep. Javier Miguel "Javi" Benitez is ecstatic over the victory scored by Eala, whom he considers a kababayan.
"Huge congratulations to Alex Eala, our Pinoy pride with roots in Victorias City, Negros Occidental, for clinching the WTA 125 Guadalajara Open Championship!" he wrote in a Facebook post.
"Your win proves perseverance, discipline, and Filipino excellence can shine on the world stage. We’re proud of you, Champion!" added Benitez.
