BACOLOD CITY – The Bacolod Gugma Foundation Inc. has officially launched the logo and theme for this year’s highly anticipated MassKara Festival, set to run from Oct. 1 to 19.
The new logo, “Mass-Kasingkasing,” was created by Paula Romaine Salmingo, a Bacolod-born illustrator and graphic artist.
Drawing inspiration from the city’s history—particularly the M/V Don Juan tragedy that originally sparked the festival—the design symbolizes resilience, unity, and hope.
It also highlights Bacolod’s rich culinary and creative culture, from beloved delicacies like piaya to local artistry.
Salmingo, who also co-designed the Electric MassKara 2019 logo, brings international design experience to her hometown. Her work this year also pays tribute to the late Eli Santiago, who created the first MassKara logo.
This year’s festival has the theme: “One Smile, One City, One Heart,” a reflection of Bacolod’s enduring spirit and unity, according to Festival Director and Foundation President Rodney Mitz Ascalon.
The theme aligns with the city’s Gugma agenda, championed by Mayor Greg Gasataya.
“This year’s celebration is more than just a festival—it’s a testament to unity,” said Ascalon.
The Foundation, which serves the official festival organizer, promises an exciting roster of events, including the return of the Street Dance and Arena Competition to the Public Plaza, with performances by barangays and schools. The Paglaum Sports Complex will serve as the starting point for parade contingents.
The festivities will culminate in a Grand After Party on Oct. 26.
