K-drama 'Confidence Queen' premieres; some scenes shot in PH
The Korean series “Confidence Queen,” starring Park Min-young, Park Hee-Soon and Joo Jong-Hyuk, premiered on Prime Video on Sept. 6.
Park Min-young is back in “Confidence Queen” after starring in “Marry My Husband.” In the series, she is Yun Yi-rang, a brilliant woman who reinvents herself as a master con artist and teams up with James (Park Hee-soon) and Myung Gu-ho (Joo Jong-hyuk) to expose criminals and take their ill-gotten gains.
Episode 1 also featured actress Song Ji-hyo, and actors Jung Woong-in and Hyun Bong-sik.
The premiere episode of “Confidence Queen” showed scenes shot in the Philippines, including the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
In a club scene, Korean actor Jung Woong-in, who plays the role of foundation chairman and loan shark Jeon Tae-soo, tells Joo Jong-Hyuk in Filipino, "Masaya ka ba? (Are you happy?)."
Joo Jong-Hyuk fires back and tells him, "Ikaw ay tanga. Gusto mo patay? (You're an idiot. Do you want to die?)."
In an interview with Manila Bulletin and other media outlets, Park Min-young gave the reason when she decided to star in “Confidence Queen.”
“When I read this script, I think that this character is such a great character that I don't think there would be an actress who wouldn't be drawn to her. And as for the cast as well, I have long said that I am a big fan of Hee-soon so getting to work with him was a huge plus. And also I had been following Jong-hyuk's career as well and having worked with him, all I can say is he's just really too adorable and with everyone that worked on this show, we really put our hearts and souls into it. So I think that was why I was drawn to this,” she said.
It airs every Saturday and Sunday and has 12 episodes.
