Three fishermen who had been stranded in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) for two days finally got rescued by the authorities after they ended up at an isolated detachment of the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) on Sunday morning, Sept. 7.
The Marines identified the fishermen as Romeo H. Carta, 50; Rojin A. Santillan, 28; and Axel C. Gonzaga, 30; all residents of Malayan, Batangas.
According to the PMC, the fishermen went on a fishing expedition in the WPS along with other colleagues but they were separated from their mother boat due to rough sea conditions.
Fortunately, the fishermen ended up at one of the detachments of the Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT)-9 in the WPS, leading to their rescue at 8:30 a.m.
The location of the Marines’ detachment was not disclosed by the MBLT-9 for security purposes.
The Marines initially provided food, water, and medical assistance to the fishermen.
A coordination was then made by the MBLT-9 with the Philippine Navy (PN) to contact the fishermen’s mother boat for the fishermen’s turn over.
