The low-pressure area (LPA) west of Northern Luzon has developed into Tropical Depression (TD) “Lannie,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Saturday morning, September 6.
As of 3 a.m., PAGASA said the center of “Lannie” was located 305 km west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h. It is moving westward at 15 km/h.
Forecast and movement
PAGASA said “Lannie” is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) today, either in the morning or afternoon. The tropical depression may also intensify into a tropical storm by tonight or early Sunday.
No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) has been raised in any part of the country, PAGASA added.
Rain and wind impacts
Even after exiting PAR, “Lannie” will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat), bringing scattered rains and thunderstorms over the following areas:
- Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cagayan Valley
- Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon
PAGASA warned of possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, strong to gale-force gusts are also expected in Ilocos Region, Cagayan, and Isabela today and tomorrow, September 7.
Sea conditions
PAGASA warned of potentially rough seas reaching up to 3.0 meters along the seaboards of the Ilocos Region, while moderate seas of up to 2.5 meters may be experienced along the seaboards of Cagayan, Isabela, Zambales, and Bataan.
Small vessels and motorbancas are advised not to venture out to sea.
