In a heartfelt message on his Instagram account, the newly-appointed Magnolia head coach officially announced his retirement from professional basketball, marking the end of a remarkable PBA career as he embarks on a new chapter from the sidelines.
Tenorio looked back on his storied 19-year journey in the PBA—highlighting the triumphs of multiple championships and the challenges, including his most difficult battle yet: his fight against colon cancer.
"19 years playing in the PBA, 13 years with Ginebra, I don't even know where or how to begin. It was just yesterday I was battling cancer, and I remember saying in March 2023, "I have given not only 17 full years to the PBA, but have dedicated my whole life to basketball. I have committed my body and health for the love of the game. It has been my passion and love," wrote Tenorio.
"All I can think of then, was getting well and touching a basketball once again. I always imagined myself wearing my Ginebra jersey and being called again to the court - to lead the team I love and belong to, hopefully to a Championship. I am forever thankful to the Lord for allowing me to play once again and inspire others," he added.
The 41-year-old playmaker admitted that he would have loved to close his playing career with another championship run with Ginebra, but shared that the opportunity to coach Magnolia was too good to pass up.
He also expressed deep gratitude to the entire Ginebra organization—from management, coaches and staff to his teammates and the loyal, die-hard fans.
"I believe it is best to take this opportunity and step into this next chapter of my life in the world of basketball - coaching. The Ginebra team is in good hands with its new court leaders and I have nothing but love for all of them," said Tenorio.
"So, from the bottom of my heart...After 13 unforgettable years, l am beyond grateful. Sobra ang pasasalamat ko sa buong Barangay Ginebra family," added Tenorio who is hanging up his sneakers with eight PBA championships, four Finals MVP plum.
Tenorio vowed to give his best and serve the game he loved growing up – albeit this time, on a different capacity.
"This is not goodbye. Paalam sa jersey, pero hindi sa puso," he stressed.
