Filipino surgeons provided free surgeries to indigent patients nationwide on Saturday, Sept. 6, during the National Surgical Outreach Day held in Quezon City.
The initiative was organized by the Philippine College of Surgeons (PCS) in Quezon City as part of its 89th founding anniversary, with the theme “Bridging Gaps, Transforming Lives with Quality Surgery.”
Operations began at 9 a.m. in both public and private hospitals, marked by a nationwide “cutting time” and coordinated online via Zoom.
The program aimed to reduce the surgical backlog and give underprivileged communities access to quality care. Procedures ranged from goiter and breast surgeries to other major operations.
Various hospitals in Metro Manila and across the country -- including the Philippine General Hospital, St. Luke’s Medical Center, Makati Medical Center, The Medical City, Philippine Heart Center, and East Avenue Medical Center -- joined the initiative.
PCS said the project reflects the medical community’s “bayanihan” spirit and its mission to make surgery accessible to all Filipinos.
