Some P8 million worth of alleged counterfeit products bearing the JANSPORT trademark have been seized in Bataan, Manila and Pasay City.
In a statement, the NBI said its Intellectual Property Rights Division (NBI-IPRD) implemented search warrants issued by the courts.
During the operations from Aug. 20, 28, and 29, it said its operatives seized 4,555 pieces of assorted products bearing the JANSPORT trademark with an estimated value of P8,144,950.00.
Sale of counterfeit products is a violation of the Intellectual Property Code under Republic Act No. 8293, the NBI said.
Director Judge Jaime B. Santiago lauded the NBI-IPRD for successfully implementing the search warrants. He also reminded the public to refrain from patronizing pirated products to protect the intellectual property rights of brand owners.
