CEBU CITY – Barely two months into office, Police Col. Christopher Bermudez was relieved as a reshuffle was enforced anew at the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO).
Bermudez was replaced by Police Col. Abubakar Udang Mangelen Jr.
Mangelen officially assumed the post in a formal turnover ceremony on Friday, ending Bermudez’s tenure in just 59 days.
Despite his short stint, Bermudez said he was able to make significant changes. He said under his watch, the CPPO headquarters was renovated and a state-of-the-art command center was built.
CPPO’s fitness gym was also renovated in a move meant to improve the well-being of the personnel, Bermudez said.
While Bermudez was the CPPO chief from July 7 to Sept. 4, 536 individuals were arrested in 368 anti-illegal drug operations.
The series of operations led to the confiscation of 5.6 kilos of shabu valued at P31.3 million.
In the campaign against wanted persons, 297 were arrested, 59 of them considered most wanted persons.
Also under Bermudez, 162 operations against loose firearms were conducted that led to the arrest of 79 individuals and the confiscation of 86 firearms.
In the campaign against illegal gambling, 265 individuals were arrested and P64,900 in bet money were recovered in 194 operations.
