A four-year-old boy died, and his mother was injured while trying to save him during a fire that hit a residential area in Pasig City early Saturday, Sept. 6.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire started at around 2:22 a.m. in Pupha Compound, Barangay Pinagbuhatan, and was extinguished by 2:46 a.m.
The victim's mother sustained second-degree burns on both arms.
Authorities said the mother tried to save her child but accidentally dropped him while escaping. As the fire intensified, neighbors had no choice but to pull the mother out of the burning house to safety.
The affected houses were reportedly made of light materials, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Around five families were affected by the incident.
Arson investigators are still determining the cause of the fire and assessing the cost of damage to property.
