RAISA and Jerry Treñas and Jam Jam Baronda.
ILOILO CITY — The word war between Iloilo City Rep. Julienne “JamJam” Baronda and former Mayor Jerry Treñas and daughter incumbent Mayor Raisa Treñas-Chu has escalated.
Raisa released a statement on Thursday, Sept. 4, asking Baronda and the Department of Public Works and Highways-Iloilo City to release the list of all implemented projects in Iloilo City since 2019.
Raisa issued the statement after inspecting alleged anomalous flood control projects in the city.
The neophyte mayor has stepped up claims that Baronda as congresswoman is responsible for requesting and sponsoring these projects with the DPWH.
Baronda responded and demanded that Raisa release all records of infrastructure projects of her father Jerry when he served as mayor from 2001 to 2010, congressman from 2010 to 2019, and again mayor from 2019 to 2025.
Baronda noted that Jerry spent a “quarter of a century in power yet miserably failed in solving flooding problems in the city.”
On Thursday night, Jerry joined the fray by posting the recognition of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on his Facebook page.
But he failed to mention that in the last two years, 2023 and 2024, of his administration, this city under his leadership failed to earn the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).
On Friday morning, Jerry issued another statement on Facebook apologizing to Ilonggos for endorsing Baronda in 2019. He claimed he endorsed Baronda when the unnamed person he asked to run for congressman declined.
Baronda responded and said she regretted giving her trust to Jerry, who cut his political alliance with her last March 2024 when he announced that Raisa will replace Baronda as congresswoman in the elections.
This plan did not materialize as initial surveys showed that Raisa was polling low against Baronda. Jerry, who was eligible to run for a third term, decided not to run to enable Raisa to replace him.
Since Jerry cut his ties with Baronda last year, he has been attacking DPWH-Iloilo City, its District Engineer Roy Pacanan, and infrastructure projects facilitated by Baronda.
