BACOLOD CITY – Police Col. Rainerio de Chavez, Negros Occidental police director, was relieved from Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), effective Friday, Sept. 5, pursuant to an order from the Philippine National Police (PNP) national headquarters.
A special order issued by Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., acting PNP chief, stated that De Chavez, along with seven other police commissioned officers from different police regional offices and units, were reassigned to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
The order was signed by Police Major Gen. Constancio Chinayog Jr., director for personnel and records management of the PNP.
De Chavez was assigned to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office on Feb. 22, 2024, serving for one year and a half.
Police Capt. Judesses Catalogo, Negros Occidental police spokesperson, said that Police Lt. Col. Joem Malong, concurrent PRO-NIR spokesperson and deputy provincial director for administration, was designated as caretaker of Nocppo.
De Chavez was relieved after a series of insurgency-related killings in northern Negros Occidental and alleged "salvage" or summary execution cases in Talisay City.
Catalogo said that De Chavez's relief is part of his career enhancement.
