MPIC's mWell launches Philippines' first fully digital health ID
Metro Pacific Investments Corp.’s (MPIC) digital healthcare arm, mWell, has launched the country’s first fully digital health identity designed to enable Filipinos to carry their complete personal health records in their pocket.
Accessible via the mWell app, the mWell Health ID serves as a secure digital passport containing personal health records, lab results, prescriptions, vaccination records, emergency contacts, and other vital health information.
It offers built-in consent and privacy controls, allowing patients to easily share their records with doctors, hospitals, and partner clinics without the hassle of paperwork.
“Healthcare is a basic human right. The mWell Health ID is a crucial step towards universal healthcare, which envisions allowing all Filipinos to move through their health journeys with security and peace of mind,” said mWell and MPIC Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan.
MPIC Chief Finance, Risk, and Sustainability Officer and mWell President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Chaye Cabal-Revilla said, “We are honored to enable a transformative milestone in healthcare for the Philippines.”
“Our mWell digital Health ID empowers patients with a secure, seamless, and privacy-first way to manage their health records across healthcare facilities. This innovation directly addresses the pain points of our citizens by driving accessibility, efficiency, and collaboration in our healthcare system,” she noted.
Revilla added that, “Our goal is to build a future where care is reliable, data-driven, and always within reach. The digital Health ID opens a new chapter for Philippine healthcare as it represents a shift toward empowering patients and building a healthier, more connected nation.”
With the digital Health ID, patients can register more quickly at partner clinics and hospitals, eliminating the need to repeatedly fill out forms.
Their medical history, including past diagnoses, prescriptions, lab results, and allergies, becomes accessible across different health facilities, making care more seamless within the mWell ecosystem.
This portability helps reduce duplicate testing and ensures that doctors can make informed decisions based on complete and up-to-date information.
“Interoperability of health records has always been one of the biggest challenges in our healthcare system,” said mWell Chief Operations Officer (COO) Raymond Sarmiento.
He added that, “By putting health records in the hands of every Filipino, we create stronger connections between patients and providers. The Health ID is a secure and patient-centered solution that strengthens the health system by making medical data portable, reliable, and truly useful to patients.”
The launch of the Health ID supports the vision of the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act, under Republic Act (RA) No. 11223, which seeks to make quality healthcare accessible and affordable for all.
By enabling secure and seamless data sharing, it directly addresses one of the healthcare system’s biggest gaps: the lack of coordination caused by paper-based files and a fragmented patient record system.
