Iloilo City cops bag man who robbed ex-police chief's wife in 24 hours

ILOILO CITY – Lawmen apprehended a man who allegedly robbed the wife of a former police chief of Iloilo province here in 24 hours.
The 39-year-old suspect pointed a gun while Dr. Maria Lulu Divinah Salinas, wife of retired Police Col. Cornelio Salinas Jr., was waiting for her husband in a mall parking lot in Mandurriao District on Wednesday evening.
The suspect demanded the victim’s wallet and while she was getting the item from her bag, the suspect hit her with the gun and forcibly took it himself and fled onboard a motorcycle.
The victim’s wallet had around P50,000 in cash as well as $200, 100 Euros, and several ATM cards.
Western Visayas police chief Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan gave Iloilo City police director Police Col. Kim Legada 48 hours to apprehend the suspect.
Police Capt. Val Cambel, ICPO Police Station 10 chief, said they were able to track and arrest the suspect, Fil-Am, thru CCTV footage from the mall and other key places on Thursday evening, Sept. 4.
“The arrest of the suspect is a welcome development,” said Mayor Raisa Treñas, who was at the ICPO headquarters after the suspect’s arrest.
