AC Health to use Temasek investment to add more hospitals, clinics, pharmacies
Ayala Healthcare Investment Holdings Inc. (AC Health) is planning to use the fresh capital from the investment of the Temasek group’s ABS Impact Fund II to finance the expansion of its network of hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies.
“With the fresh capital, AC Health will expand its network to at least 10 hospitals, 300 clinics, and 1,150 pharmacies by 2027,” the company said.
It noted that, “The investment will also enable the company to strengthen its capabilities in digital health and data-driven innovations, allowing for more efficient, patient-centered care.”
AC Health formalized its alliance with Singapore-based ABC Impact through a ceremonial signing on Thursday, Sept. 4, which was attended by leaders from both organizations and Singaporean Ambassador to the Philippines Constance See.
The signing follows the closing of the investment agreement in which ABC Impact has committed to subscribe to a 16-percent minority stake in AC Health. The capital infusion will accelerate AC Health’s mission of transforming health for every Filipino.
ABC Impact subscribed to 121.09 million common shares and 208.28 million redeemable preferred shares of AC Health for its initial committed investment tranche.
Singapore-based ABC Impact operates under Temasek Trust Asset Management and is supported by Temasek Trust, Temasek, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and other institutional investors.
“When we first envisioned AC Health, we knew that we couldn’t achieve our goals alone. Healthcare is complex, it’s fragmented, and it’s deeply personal,” said AC Health President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Paolo Borromeo.
He noted that, “It takes strong, like-minded partners to drive systemic change. We are thrilled to have found that partner in ABC Impact, a values-driven investor that shares our commitment to long-term inclusive growth.
“Together, we’re laying the groundwork for a healthcare future that is more accessible and more sustainable for the long term. With ABC Impact’s support, we look forward to deepening our capabilities across the ecosystem.”
ABC Impact, established in 2019 by Temasek and Temasek Trust, is a private equity fund dedicated to delivering measurable impact alongside sustainable financial returns. The firm has previously invested in healthcare providers in India, Vietnam, and China.
This strategic investment in AC Health marks the company’s entry into the Philippine healthcare sector, expanding its regional footprint.
“We are very pleased to mark our first healthcare investment in the Philippines through this partnership with AC Health,” said ABC Impact CEO David Heng.
He added that, “We invested in AC Health because we see a strong alignment in values, in leadership, and in the shared ambition to transform healthcare through better access and integrated care across the country.”
Heng emphasized that the partnership also builds on the longstanding relationship between the Ayala Group and the Temasek ecosystem, anchored on a shared belief in inclusive growth and the role of business in serving society.
“This collaboration reflects our confidence in the Philippine healthcare sector, as well as our belief in inclusive models of care that can deliver long-term positive impact for communities,” he added.
See underscored the broader significance of the partnership, citing it as a reflection of the longstanding ties between Singapore and the Philippines, which celebrated 55 years of diplomatic relations last year.
“Healthcare is a powerful example of what is possible when our investors and enterprises collaborate,” See said, noting that the partnership is part of the expanding collaboration between Singapore and the Philippines.
She added that, “Healthcare is a priority for both our nations. This partnership shows how Singapore and the Philippines can work together to expand healthcare access, raise standards of care, and share knowledge and innovations. By working together, we can build more inclusive and sustainable health systems that improve lives in both our nations.”
