'No to violence': Mayor Vico reminds public after St. Gerrard Construction protest
Mayor Vico Sotto
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto reminded the public not to resort to violence that could injure others, following the protests outside the St. Gerrard Construction Building on Thursday morning, Sept. 4.
Sotto made the statement after the protesters threw mud and spray-painted “Magnanakaw (thief)” and “Korap (corrupt)” on the building's gate.
“I understand that we are angry and frustrated, but let's not resort to violence or acts that could potentially lead to violence or injuries,” he said.
“Hindi naman yung mga corrupt ang masasaktan pag bumigay ang gate, hindi rin sila ang matatamaan ng bato. Nag-aalala ako para sa mga security guard, trabahador, at raliyista mismo (The corrupt will not be harmed if the gate collapses, nor will they be hit by stones. My concern is for the security guards, workers, and even the protesters themselves),” he added.
He also assured the people, saying, "Don't feel hopeless... the momentum is on the right side now. Let us continue to fight for accountability, stronger institutions, and the rule of law. There are no shortcuts."
The mayor added that the local government will continue to do its part with investigation, case buildup, and even prosecution.
“Not just for the Discaya companies. Anything we can do to help. We have had initial exchanges of info and coordination with at least 5 national government agencies... nararamdaman din namin na bumibilis ang kilos nila ngayon (We can also feel that their actions are moving faster now),” he emphasized.
Sotto added that criminal cases and administrative actions concerning LGU matters, such as illegal building structures and business tax delinquencies, will also continue.
