ILOILO CITY – Neophyte Mayor Raisa Treñas of this city wants to stop all flood control projects undertaken by the companies of the controversial Discaya family.
“Since na revoke, pa untaton ta man ila tanan diri nga ongoing projects (Since it was revoked, we will stop all their ongoing projects here),” said Treñas on Thursday, Sept. 4, after inspecting another set of flood control projects.
The mayor was referring to the revocation of licenses by the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) on all nine companies owned by the Discaya family.
Among the Discaya-owned firms that have flood control projects in Iloilo City are Alpha and Omega General Contractor and Development Corp., Saint Timothy Construction Corp., Saint Matthew Construction General Contractor and Development Corp., Saint Gerrard Construction Gen. Contractor and Development Corp., and YPR General Contractor and Construction Supply Inc.
Treñas said she will write a letter to Secretary Vince Dizon of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) asking for guidance on the matter.
“We will ask the guidance from DPWH—if we need from our end to issue … We will issue,” she added.
This came a day after the Treñas administration ordered two Discaya-owned construction firms to pay more than P3 million in penalties for allegedly undertaking flood control projects in Iloilo City without permits – Alpha and Omega General Contractor and Development Corp. and Saint Timothy Construction Corp.
The Iloilo City Treasurer’s Office said projects of these two firms do not have a mayor’s and business permit.
