Mayor Isko warns protesters at DPWH HQ: 'I will not tolerate mob rule in the city'

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso reminded protesters who stormed the office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Manila earlier today, Sept. 4, of the legal consequences of their actions.
In a media briefing, Domagoso said he has ordered the Manila Police District (MPD) led by Brig. Gen. Arnold Abad to prevent any escalation of unrest, stressing that he will not tolerate mob rule in the city.
During the demonstration, protesters belonging to several progressive youth groups, were seen hurling rotten fruits and water balloons at the DPWH compound amid controversies surrounding the country's flood control projects.
He said he will not allow the disturbance or destruction of government offices, especially not the disruption of peace for any individual residing in the city.
"My job as the mayor and local chief executive is to keep the peace and order situation of our city," Domagoso said.
“Kung gusto nilang ilabas ang kanilang mga hinaing at ang kanilang mga damdamin, malaya nilang magagawa iyon sa Maynila, doon sa aming mga freedom park (If they want to air their grievances and emotions, they may freely do it in Manila's freedom park)," he added.
The mayor reminded the demonstrators of their legal responsibilities following the incident.
“We are a nation and city under the rule of law. I am not going to allow it under my watch to say 'because I said so' that you are guilty or not. It is up to the court to decide who is liable for such crime or commission of a crime. Karapatan ng taumbayan, ninuman, na magkaroon ng pamayanang may kapanatagan (It is the right of every citizen to have a secure community). In the same manner, those who wanted to air their grievances or dislike to a particular corporation or agency, there is what you call a freedom park. Welcome kayo doon (You are all welcome there)," Domagoso explained.
“Matatanda naman na sila. Tingin ko naman, nakita ko doon, puro dise otso anyos pataas na eh (They are all of legal age). You are legally bound with your actions -- violation of civil disturbance, violation of rights of any citizen," he stressed.
