HPG holds surprise inspections of all cars, motorcycles inside PNP headquarters
Policemen and visitors at Camp Crame in Quezon City were surprised by the strict inspection of all motor vehicles inside the headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday, Sept. 4.
The surprise inspection was ordered by newly-installed PNP-Highway Patrol Group director Col. Hansel Marantan in a bid to ensure that no policeman assigned at Camp Crame is using stolen or recovered motor vehicles.
PNP-Highway Patrol Group spokesman Lt. Nadame Malang said around 500 motorcycles and 300 cars were inspected and of these figures, six were issued with citation tickets for violations, mostly failure to bring Certificate of Registration and Official Receipt.
“The purpose of this operation is to ensure that all policemen are also following the law, the rules and regulations in relation to motor vehicles. We also want to make it a point that all motor vehicle owners should have their motor vehicles registered on time,” said Malang.
While the HPG operatives did not encounter motor carnapped or police-recovered motor vehicles, Malang said their personnel came across with private motor vehicles using unauthorized accessories and other insignias.
In the past, a handful of policemen were caught using motor vehicles that were recovered in police operations.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO), on the other hand, revealed last year that around 60 percent of motor vehicles in the country have expired registration.
Also, netizens have been complaining of unauthorized car accessories like sirens and blinkers and even light bars and license plate covers.
Malang said the HPG will continue to conduct inspections inside Camp Crame to compel all policemen to follow the land transportation-related rules and regulations.
