Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said the Pres. Corazon C. Aquino General Hospital or Baseco Hospital will open on Friday, Sept. 5, as part of the city government's expanded efforts in boosting the city's healthcare capabilities.
The three-story, 50-bed capacity hospital located in Baseco Compound, was finished three months earlier than the originally scheduled opening date of December this year, despite construction delays under the previous administration.
The hospital has a fully operational emergency room, digital x-ray equipment, and a centralized oxygen supply line.
It also features a community-inclusive outpatient department, radiology department, laboratory and central diagnostics department, dietary department, 24/7 maternity department, and surgery and internal medicine department.
Male and female wards, isolation wards, and a pediatric ward are also available in the facility.
Equipped with modern medical equipment and facilities, the Baseco Hospital will cater to residents of the Baseco area and nearby communities, complementing other flagship health projects of Manila such as the ongoing construction of the Manila Cancer Center (MCC), which is set to become the first local government-run cancer facility in the country.
Domagoso stressed that the milestone project marks a significant step forward in making specialized cancer care accessible to all Manileños, especially those who cannot afford private healthcare.
The mayor also launched free MRI and CT scan services at the Ospital ng Maynila (OsMan), following the installation of modern diagnostic imaging equipment that enables faster and more accurate detection of illnesses.
"Please do share, i-avail ninyo, sa inyo 'yun, pera ninyo ang pinambili du'n (Please do share this news to others and avail of it because it was bought using your money)," Domagoso said.
"Mas gugustuhin ko na masira 'yan sa kakagamit ng taumbayan kaysa masira nang naka-display lang (I prefer the machines get worn out from public use rather than get damaged while left unused), he added, explaining that many sick people want to be treated but cannot receive proper care without accurate diagnostics, which is why the equipment must be fully utilized.
The city government said the administration of Domagoso is strongly committed to expanding and improving healthcare access for all Manileños by building more city-operated healthcare infrastructure and modernizing existing hospitals and health centers.
