Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso warned those involved in anomalous flood control projects in the city that he will come for them as the probe on the crisis continues.

In an interview with the media on Wednesday, Sept. 3, Domagoso said that they are still waiting for the results of the investigation and vowed that the city government will file charges against those behind the scam.

"We will wait for the result of the investigation. For the meantime, we are hoping that it will end well for the betterment of our people. Kasi ngayon the entire country is like chaotic eh with regard to this issue, eh kami sa Maynila talagang apektado din (Right now, the entire country is chaotic with regard to this issue, and we in Manila are severely affected by it)," the mayor said.

"I hope na may mauwian itong ginagawa nilang ito. Basta kami pagka may nakita na kaming ebidensya laban sa mga tiwali, nagfifile na agad kami ng kaso katulad ng ginawa namin sa pagkukulang ng mga kontraktor sa Maynila (I hope that the investigation will quickly yield results. All I can assure is that once we obtain enough evidence against those corrupt officials and personnel, we will immediately file charges against them, just like what we did to those contractors who have failed to deliver the quality of service they promised)," he added.

Domagoso expressed his frustration over the crisis, stressing that innocent people are dying not just because of flooding and leptospirosis, but mostly because of negligence and corruption in the implementation of flood control projects.

"In the case of the City of Manila, and I am calling the attention of all concerned agencies, the rise of leptospirosis infection is really beyond sa kapasidad (ng city government). People are dying because of flooding. More than the property damage, the threat to life is very severe. So I hope that they will going to do it fast and will yield results. After that, we move forward kaagad: What can we do together to develop real, functioning pumping stations and flood control projects (In the case of the city of Manila, and I am calling the attention of all concerned agencies, the rise of leptospirosis infection is really beyond the capacity of the city government. People are dying because of flooding. More than the property damage, the threat to life is very severe. So I hope that they will going to do it fast and will yield results. After that, we move forward immediately: What can we do together to develop real, functioning pumping stations and flood control projects?)," the local chief executive stressed.

On Aug. 26, Domagoso issued an urgent call for accountability in the city’s flood control and waste management efforts in the wake of rising cases of leptospirosis in the city.

In a meeting with department heads and bureau directors, Domagoso slammed several flood control projects that have failed to yield results, despite a massive P14 billion budget allocation.

He said the persistence of flooding in various parts of the city not only disrupts daily life but has also been identified as a key contributor to the rise in leptospirosis cases, a disease spread through contaminated floodwaters.

“Tayo ang may pinakamalaking flood control, P14 billion, at tayo rin ang pinakabaha na siyudad (We have the biggest flood control budget, P14 billion, and yet we are still the most flooded city)."

"Every now and then, kawawa naman ang mga taga-Maynila (Every now and then, the people of Manila suffer), sad to say."
